--Reformistas y conservadores moderados se preparan para formar una gran coalición contra Ahmadineyad. No están solos. Algunos líderes religiosos, como el gran ayatolá Yusef Sa'anei, también están cansados de la incompetencia del Gobierno y de su retórica mesiánica:
In a rare interview with a western newspaper at his office in the holy city of Qom, Mr Sa'anei said: "The government should be at the service of the people. But it is putting too much pressure on the people. "It bans newspapers, sends people to jail, segregates boys and the girls at the universities, makes noise about hijab."
--Mordejai Vanunu, condenado por mantener contactos telefónicos con extranjeros:
Attorney Michael Strauss, who represented Vanunu along with attorney Avigdor Feldman, said that "this verdict convicts a person for being in contact with other people - regardless of the content of their conversation - simply for the contact, and this is an intolerable situation in a liberal democracy. This has never happened in the past."
--Esta tarde se conoce el informe de la comisión Vinograd que ha evaluado la conducta del Gobierno y Ejército israelíes en los cinco primeros días de la guerra del Líbano del pasado verano. Se esperan críticas durísimas a Olmert, el ministro de Defensa y los generales.
--En los últimos seis meses, EEUU ha permitido la entrada en el país de 1.300 cubanos y 2.400 iraníes. Número de refugiados iraquíes que han disfrutado del mismo privilegio: 68.
--El Gobierno iraquí destituye a los altos mandos policiales y militares que se han enfrentado con más decisión a la violencia sectaria de las milicias shiies:
"Their only crimes or offenses were they were successful" against the Mahdi Army, a powerful Shiite militia, said Brig. Gen. Dana J.H. Pittard, commanding general of the Iraq Assistance Group, which works with Iraqi security forces. "I'm tired of seeing good Iraqi officers having to look over their shoulders when they're trying to do the right thing."
