The Guardian:

The Bush administration has blocked the reappointment of the UN's Palestinian refugee agency chief, Peter Hansen, after a campaign by conservative and Jewish groups in the US, and the government in Jerusalem which accused him of being an "Israel hater". (...)

"I was willing to stay. There are certain facts about the views of certain groups in the US and Israel about how I have carried out my functions and those groups influenced the decision not to reappoint me," he said.

El Gobierno israelí se cobra así una pieza largamente deseada.

Departing head of UN refugee agency decries conditions in Gaza as horrendous. Peter Hansen spoke out about the conditions in Gaza at a recent conference sponsored by the Faculty for Israeli-Palestinian Peace held in East Jerusalem.

The ornate ceremonial courtroom at U.S. District Court in Washingotn, D.C. will be the backdrop for Judge Thomas Hogan to hear arguments from the Department of Justice and the House of Representatives, as well as Jefferson's lawyer, on the search which Hogan condoned.

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
